In 1865 Samuel Bookbinder opened a lunch counter near the docks of the Delaware River. It was the perfect location for a seafood paradise. In the early 1940's the Taxin family purchased the restaurant and it grew in both reputation and size. A destination for locals, visiting dignitaries, pro athletes and Hollywood stars, Bookbinder's quickly became the "place to be seen" in Philadelphia. It's hard to find a Philadelphian who doesn't have a cherished Bookbinder's memory. Today Old Original Bookbinder's continues the family tradition begun centuries ago.
